Dinamiche di Trasformazione delle Public Utilities a Torino

Four heavily controlled or heavily controlled industrial groups owned by the Municipality of Turin generate over € 3 billion in revenue each year, nearly € 600 million in gross operating profit and € 132 million in net income. The Turin public utilities, through alliances and mergers, have long since crossed the urban boundaries and extended the range of action in many Italian regions; in some cases they have measured their competitiveness within international markets. The hypothetical aggregate of 4 important players in the respective public service sector: Amiat Group, Smat Group, Gtt Group and Iren Group employs over 11,000 employees and produces a turnover of more than one billion euros. In Turin alone, over 6,000 companies collect more than 322 million euro of orders. The imminent liberalization process draws attention to the role of the Municipality in the double role of corporate shareholder and territorial stakeholder and underlines the centrality of public utilities in urban economic policy not only in terms of balance sheet items and consensus management.
